1. What is the difference between Cotton, Polyester, and DuraCord rope?
Cotton rope is the traditional material rope hammocks are made from. It is soft and provides a more natural look. Cotton is perfect for people who can take their hammock inside and out very easily or who want the most comfortable hammock.

Polyester rope is weather resistant and will increase the longevity of your hammock. This bright white rope is a soft spun man-made fiber that is rot and mildew resistant. Polyester hammocks are recommended for tougher weather conditions or to leave outside all the time.

DuraCord rope provides the soft feel of cotton while maintaining superior outdoor durability and solution-dyed color-fastness. It is a fast drying and stain resistant fiber that prevents microbial and mildew growth.

2. What is the optimal distance at which to hang my hammock?
The ideal distance for a large hammock is 15 feet or between 13-16 feet. The closer your anchor points are the more curved your hammock will be. The ideal distance for any hammock is about two feet longer than the entire length of the hammock when measured from loop to loop.

The recommended height for the placement of the tree hook is between 4 and 5 feet. If your supports are closer than the above recommended length, the tree hooks should be raised.

Note: New hammocks might appear to be smaller but will stretch over time. It is normal for a hammock to be up to 1-2 feet shorter in the beginning.

return

3. How long can my hammock last?
The climate influences the life of your hammock tremendously. We have seen some hammocks last anywhere from 2 to 12 years. Under the same conditions, DuraCord will normally last longer than polyester and cotton. Proper care will also extend the life of your hammock. It is recommended that you bring your hammock inside in the winter and during extended periods of bad weather or non-usage. Keeping your hammock clean will also help its longevity. Read below for more information on this subject.

return

4. Will my hammock mildew?
Yes, over time if left out in the elements. However Polyester and DuraCord® are mildew resistant and only the dirt that accumulates on the rope or fabric will actually mildew. It is important to keep you hammock free of dirt and debris.

return

5. How can I clean my hammock?
To clean a rope hammock, use a mild solution of soap and water in a bathtub, and then simply let air-dry. Try to keep the spreader bars out of the water as much as possible so that they do not get warped in the process. For polyester rope, you can also add a cap of bleach with the soap.

To clean quilted fabric hammocks, pillows, or swings, use a mild solution of soap and water and use a scrub brush. Hose off completely and then let air-dry. Spot remover solutions can also be used for problem areas.

return

6. How much will my hammock stretch?
Depending on the material, it can stretch anywhere from 1 to 2 feet.

return

7. What are the weight capacities?
Most hammocks, swings, and stands all have a weight capacity of 450 lbs. There are a few stands, however, that are capable of supporting up to 600 lbs.

return

8. Are replacement parts available?
Yes, we carry a few replacement parts, but we recommend calling the manufacturer at (252) 295-0404.

return

9. Do you do repairs?
No, simply because we are not equipped to do repairs. Please call the manufacturer at (252) 295-0404.

return

10. My hammock "flipped" me out, is it defective?
No, it is not defective. Caution should be used when entering and exiting hammocks, especially for children and the elderly.

return

11. What hammock is the easiest to clean and care for?
The open weave "Poolside" hammocks are the easiest to care for. DuraCord rope and fabrics also are easier to clean and maintain.

return

12. My hammock rope ends appear to be fraying, is that normal?
Yes. The "fraying" you noticed is referred to as "tasseling". This rustic effect is to keep with the look of traditional hammocks. Since hammocks are hand woven, some ends may be dipped in wax or sealed with a hot knife. This is to aid the hammock weaver in the weaving of the hammock. If the ends are waxed or sealed, the ends will still eventually tassel. This in no way affects the durability of the rope. Because of the way the knots are tied, they actually tighten when weight is applied to the hammock. Therefore, the tasseling effect will not continue past where the rope is knotted.

return

13. Can I leave my hammock out all year round?
It is not recommended. Prolonged exposure to harsh elements can shorten the life your hammock.

return

14. My hammock is bottoming out and I'm almost laying on the ground, what should I do?
The rope will stretch naturally over time and may need to be compensated for by adjusting the chains at the end of the hammock. If this is an older hammock and you have already shortened the chains as far as you can, it probably means the rope is nearing the end of its life. If the rope does not appear to be frayed or weak, you can try adjusting the hanging distance or hanging height (if possible). Please refer to our chart below, when trying to determine hanging distance or hook height.

Height of Tree Hooks (in inches)

  Distance Between Trees or Posts
Hammock Length* 10' 11' 12' 13' 14' 15'
  Height of Tree Hooks (in inches)
9' 48 48 48 48 48 48
10' 54 48 48 48 48 48
11' 66 54 48 48 48 48
12' 84 72 60 48 48 48
13' 96 84 72 60 48 48
14' 108 96 84 72 60 48

*Distance in feet measured from ring to ring when laid flat on the floor
**Heights in the shaded areas are not recommended because the
hammock may have too pronounced of an arch, possibly making it uncomfortable.

Important Note: It is normal for a new hammock to be up to 2 feet shorter. A new hammock is in an "unstretched state." With the first use, the hammock will stretch from 1 to 2 feet . You may need to use a small extension of chain or rope during the initial hangin. But stretching will occur and the hammock will gain its proper length.

return

15. My spreader bar broke and my hammock is brand new, will you replace it?
Of course. We have a one year warranty. Just give us a call and we'll be happy to assist you.

return

16. My hammock was missing its hanging hardware, can you help?
On occasion, the bag of hanging hardware included with the hammock can get lost during shipping. We would be more than happy to send those parts out to you if this occurs. Contact us if your hammock is missing its hanging hardware.

return

17. What are the advantages of having a spreader bar?
Spreader bars help to stretch out the hammock ropes and allow for the occupancy of more than one person. Spreader bars will also keep the hammock from "cocooning" you. If you like the "cocooning" feel, then you may be interested in a Mayan style hammock. Spreader bars also hold the hammock open even when it is unoccupied.

return

18. What is more comfortable: with or without spreader bars?
This is really a matter of personal preference. Hammocks without spreader bars give a "cocooning" effect. If you are the kind of person who likes to spread out, then you would probably prefer a hammock with a spreader bar.

return

19. Does colored polyester rope fade?
Yes, polyester rope that has been dyed will eventually fade. However, ropes made from DuraCord® will not fade.

return

20. Will colored rope rub off onto my clothing?
No. The colored rope will not rub off onto your clothing.

return

21. Will tree hooks hurt my trees?
No, tree hooks will not affect the health of the tree, but it will leave a hole however. We recommend using tree straps. This will also allow you to move your hammock from place to place easily. It also helps in adjusting the height without putting additional holes in your tree.

return

22. Can I use scotch guard on my hammock?
Yes.

return

23. Can I have a hammock special made?
No, we do not have the facilities to make hammocks.

return

24. I saw one of your hammocks at another store for less, do you price match?
Yes we will price match the same item from another store for the price with shipping included. The item must also be currently in stock.

return

25. I purchased a brand name hammock, but it does not have the brand name on the hammock, is this normal?
Some models of certain manufacturers do not include a branding. It is still a hammock made by that manufacturer, it's just unbranded.

return

26. Will my quilted hammock fabric fade?
The fabric is made from colorfast material and should not fade.
