DURAWOOD® Poly Casual Dining Chair
  • Eco-Friendly DURAWOOD®: DURAWOOD® is a 3/4"-1" lumber, compared to 1/2" thick offered by our competitors, that's made from densely compressed recycled industrial waste. It contains no waste-wood fiber so it won't absorb any water and won't rot, splinter or crack. DURAWOOD® is fade resistant and will never require paint, stain or any kind of sealant.
  • Stainless Steel Hardware: High quality 316 marine-grade stainless steel hardware is used on our outdoor furniture, compared to 304 marine-grade used by our competitors, for superior rust resistance. All hardware is painted to match the color of the furniture and strategically place to conceal each bolt.
  • Mortise and Tenon Joints: We use this ancient form of carpentry, where board meets board, to allow our furniture to fit together and help make it sturdier; rather than just being held together with nuts and bolts.

Since their humble beginnings in a backyard workshop in eastern North Carolina in 1971, Hatteras Hammock's commitment has always been to making their products right here at home, in the U.S.A. Now, more than 45 years later, Hatteras has grown their products to include several types of hammocks, but their commitment to quality and their customers is the same as it was whey first started.

They start by unspooling miles of quality synthetic yarns into multiple strands that are then precision-twisted and balanced into rope. Three lengths of that new rope are next precision-twisted and balanced to create the hardy, uncommonly heavy multi-ply that our weavers use for their signature handmade hammocks. In keeping with their mission of relaxation innovation, Hatteras Hammocks make, and use, only synthetic rope. All of the rope exceeds even the U.S. military’s exacting specifications and strength, and leads the industry in quality, durability and softness.

Solution-dyed DuraCord®, Hatteras Hammocks own top-of-the-line rope, is the most colorfast rope on the market, made for heavy wear and also resistant to staining, rotting, mold and mildew. Not to mention that it’s truly as soft as cotton! Bright-white polyester rope is soft-spun for a comfort that likewise rivals cotton, but with an added durability for wonderfully weathering the great outdoors.

Quilted hammocks and swing cushions are pillowed-up with a plush center of all-weather polyester fiberfill batting. Hatteras Hammocks use the vastly superior lockstitch for all sewing, not the simpler, more standard chain stitch, which can unravel a whole section of fabric in just seconds if accidentally snagged.

Hatteras hanging hardware is the largest in the industry, plus the industry’s heaviest steel to boot! On a hammock or swing, it’s the hanging chains and rings that bear the brunt of the stress. They plate all of their hardware with zinc to protect against rust and ensure a longer outdoor life. Their signature one-piece ring-and-chain means the hammock chain assembly won’t fall apart during storage. Each Hatteras Hammock comes with tree hooks, the hardware needed to permanently sling one of these personal relaxation stations between a couple of shady trees, or between beams on a porch or deck.

Hatteras wood is chosen not just for how good it looks, but also for how well it holds up. Cumaru, also known as Brazilian teak. This dense hardwood is used for Hatteras Hammocks spreader bars because it resists rotting, is virtually nonabsorbent and naturally weathers to a beautiful silver-gray. The South American cumaru purchased for Hatteras Hammocks® is harvested only from managed forests. Southern cypress. The award-winning Roman Arc® hammock stands and swing stands are crafted from slats of this distinctive watertight softwood. A radio-frequency gluing system is used for precision-binding the wood. Oak. For swing frames and arms, Hatteras Hammocks turns, fittingly, to this light-grained American classic. The oak is sealed with multiple hand-dipped coats of honey-gold marine-grade varnish.

The heaviest-weight steel in the industry is used for Hatteras Hammocks stands – for safety, sturdiness and solid good looks. The Tri-Beam® Steel Hammock Stand, an original design, couldn’t be simpler to assemble – no tools needed! The steel-core spring pins pop easily into place, holding the heavy poles safe and secure. Their signature 360-degree Right Connection® weld stably secures the foot and base poles of the Tri-Beam® Steel Hammock Stands. We’ve never seen a Right Connection® fail. Hatteras Hammocks finishes all of their steel stands with their own handsome, lightly textured Cape Shield® Powder Coat, among the thickest, most Earth-friendly industrial coatings available today.
