Outdoor Curtain Cleaning Tips

All of our outdoor curtains can be machine-washed using a standard mild detergent; we suggest washing in cold water only. We also strongly advise against machine-drying, which may shrink your curtains; air-dry only!

General cleaning can be accomplished by simply brushing off dirt before it becomes embedded in the fabrics, wiping up spills as soon as they occur or spot-cleaning as soon as possible after stains appear. While all of our outdoor curtains are resistant to mold and mildew growth, dirt and other organic matter can nonetheless bring mold and mildew in contact with the curtain fabric; over time, this can severely shorten curtain life.

All of our outdoor curtains are stain-resistant, which means any surface stain you might encounter should come out with only minimal effort. To spot-clean any of our outdoor curtains, use a spray bottle to apply a light mist of a mild soap-and-water solution. Work the solution into the stain, scrubbing lightly with a soft cloth or sponge with outdoor-curtain sheers, or even with a soft brush for outdoor curtains. Rinse completely to remove all soap residue, then allow the curtain fabric to air-dry. Repeat these steps until the stain comes out.

In general, a soap-and-water cleaning solution should take care of pretty much all cleaning issues. With our WeatherSmart® Outdoor Curtains and Curtains Made From Sunbrella®, however, even a bleach-and-water solution is fine for persistent stains, or for dealing with mold or mildew that may have attached to the fabric from contact with lingering organic debris. Be careful of any surfaces near to your WeatherSmart or Sunbrella fabrics, though, as they may not tolerate bleach exposure as well.

We strongly advise against using bleach with any of our polyester curtains, as it may negatively affect colored fabrics.
